Consider the lilies,

Jesus’ words filled the crowd.

In fields where they grow with splendor,

No greater beauty has been endowed.

Their days are not spent in worry,

Turmoil in deciding how to make it so.

They do not toil, nor do they spin,

For the things their Creator knows.

Jesus used this teaching,

To display His concept raised.

The confounding complications,

Resting deep within simplicity’s ways.

We don’t have to know them,

Nor understand for it to be.

Yet faith is still required,

For peace to feel it is free.

God is our GREAT Creator,

Just as those lilies of the field.

His loving care dwells with us,

Proving both seen and not revealed.

~ Author’s Look

In the book of Matthew, Jesus is teaching the people gathered there an important lesson of trust and faith. How do the lilies of the filed work to make themselves so beautiful? They don’t. Where are they taught the timing to do what they do? They aren’t. Are they stressed about these details? Obviously not. They are beautiful botanical wonders gracing the landscapes fortunate enough to host them, and they are the creations of God. He is the mastermind behind all of the intricate wonders that make lilies the admirable specimens that they are. The details are left up to God, and he never fails to make it so.

Matthew 6:28-30 (KJV) . . . And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; and toil not, neither do they spin: (29) And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (30)Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Jesus compared lilies to the beauty of the wealthiest decked out king. “Even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these,” he explained. Craftfully, what a comparison and strong point Jesus was demonstrating, reminding that man cannot produce this same kind of beauty, even if every resource was available to him. While there are a lot of intricate details that take place for a lily to become a glorious bloom, every single one of those details are placed into the hands of the Creator, not the creation. He clothes the grass of the fields with these beauties, and He can do the same for us.

God’s Care

Our needs we seek, take faith in a masterful Creator to provide. God created man just as he did the lilies of the field, so if He can see to every one of the lily’s details, we can trust Him to see to ours. The lily is not over there sweating it out to see if it is going to make it to the final bloom. And, although they are not living beings with minds and emotions, they are a great example of simple trust in a GREAT Creator to perform complicated things.

This message speaks to me and to all of my moments of lack in faith, trying to figure it out on my own while undergoing the stresses of those types of moments. I failed to remember my Creator and His abilities, but chose to worry and work my own plan instead of looking to Him and trusting in His. That is not a place from where beautiful wonders are grown.
