Sowing and Reaping,

A concept not so hard to understand.

The seed that’s sown in the planting,

In the harvest, shows up as planned.

No expectation for a change,

In the thing that one did sow.

The Botanical world well knows this,

Not seeking an explanation to know.

Spiritually it is the same,

Though in our heart, excuses keep.

Our words and deeds always sowing,

What in it’s season, will be reaped.

No matter what the circumstances,

This is how it will be.

God is not mocked.

His spiritual law He continually keeps.

Not Good works to salvation,

God’s grace does set us free.

But, culture or our own ideas,

Do not lessen what God said will be.

Grace says He is just and free to forgive us,

All our sins are washed away.

But we continue in the sowing,

For the right harvest to reap one day.

The power of sowing and reaping,

Needs to click inside your being.

It doesn’t matter what others around you are sowing,

What is the harvest YOU want to see?

It takes time from plant to harvest,

Always working to free of weeds.

Cultivating in patience,

For a different season, it comes to be.

You can’t change last year’s harvest.

Today, start fresh and new.

Good seeds to reap the bounty,

It’s inside you to review.

Make it big and plenty.

Watch it flourish, as it grows

The sowing and the reaping

Understand the POWER it can show.

This seemed an appropriate sermon to review here at the start of 2023. As we turn the calendar, we tend to look for ways to make some changes here and there that we see our lives could benefit from. This is a good one to consider: Sowing and Reaping.

No, this is not rocket science, but if most of us do a deep internal search, we can find areas that we have twisted or turned this concept to fit into our desired way. Maybe we have fallen to what culture is doing; our friends and neighbors. How could it be wrong? It’s a common practice, we tell ourselves. Or, we may have just on our little own, decided to change things to fit our own ideology. Alrighty then . . . that is what we are going to reap, in a different season.

It is God’s way- not our own. We don’t change what He says IS. Grace says He loves us, died for us, and forgives us of our sins. It is true that we are free from the old law, but God’s spiritual law still says: you reap what you sow.

The seed you put down daily is planting something. There will be a harvest, whether you are looking for it or not. The results of that harvest will show the evidence of your participation. Good seed brings a good harvest- botanically and spiritually. Weeds must be kept out. It has to be cultivated. In both worlds it is the same. Plain and simple. God is not mocked by our descresstions, and the fruit will show in its time. He doesn’t change His word for our desires.

God is a loving Father, who wants the best for us, as any good Father does. He holds us to His word, because He loves us. He knows the good that we can do.

This sermon concept was preached by Rev. Ron Becton (November of 2021) as he was trying to reach our understanding of the true POWER that lies there. He referred us to Galatians 6:6-10 (KJV) . . .Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. (7) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (8) For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (9) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (10) As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

It is so easy to mindlessly live our days and not give credit to what is truly going on. We are all sowing seeds of some kind. I pray that you join me in taking some time to reflect, cultivate and grow.

May our harvest be great!
