This is my kairos moment . . .
When my future is compressed.
To the decision that I make right now,
With my spirit’s willingness.
To reach out to this moment,
And grasp what waits for me,
To let this day make a difference,
Of the days I’ve left to see.
The power of just one moment,
Just one single moment of time,
Can change the whole direction,
Of the life that God’s made mine.
My decision here is crucial,
I want to go where I am lead.
And remember my kairos moment,
The moment my will was shed.

This was written from notes taken, while listening to a sermon preached by Rev. Ron Becton, several years ago. He expounded upon the power of just one single moment in time. A moment when we make a decision that could change the whole direction of our life- Our Kairos Moment.
Kairos is an ancient Greek word, which means the right, critical, or opportune moment for decision or action.
If we sit with that thought for a while, we can correlate moments in time with actions that we took, that line up with this definition. We can also think of times that the moment presented itself to us, and we sat there, just staring at it, maybe appreciating it, and thinking hard on it . . . but ultimately, not acting upon it.
Life presents kairos moments to us, but it is a gift that has to be received and played out, to reach the full potential of the moment. Sometimes, it is just one little step of action that propels the kairos moment into it’s potential power. We give that one single moment, all the power that it possesses, by acting and not standing still.
Rev. Becton was urging us that Sunday morning to consider our eternity, and the power of the moment we had right then, to make a move to ensure it. It was our decision to make. God’s loving arms were reaching out to us for action.
Ephesians 5:15-17 (NIV)
Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise, but as wise, (16)making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (17) Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
God made us incredible human beings with so much to share and minister to one another with, in so many different ways. Our talents, skills, words and more than anything . . .our actions have so much potential to explode a kairos moment into a life changing event-for us, or someone else.
Let us be that instrument of kairos. . .Today.
