There is a way,

A very good way.

I’ve set in place,

To follow my days.

My own guided course,

A neatly lain path.

Following my good desires.

Ignoring what God hath.

The heart is deceitful,

Above all things.

Applauding my good ways,

Rehearsing righteousness they bring.

Where is the pause,

The check in to truly see.

Guidance from the Lord,

Is this the good way He desires to be?

Get me out of my own way, Lord!

Ordering my steps according to your Word!

A longing for God’s very good way,

The only victorious pathway to observe.

Author’s Look~

This is my prayer continually, as it is so easy to get set in our own ways. . . our very good ways, and not give pause to check in with ourselves to ask the most important question. . . is this God’s way? Are we busy in the illusion that we are doing His work, only managing it in a way that feels right to us, and follows what we desire for our own life? We have to be clear which way to go.

Which Way?

Do we really spend time “checking in” with God to make sure these very good plans line up with what God wants to take place in our lives? God and I may be on the same mission, but I might just be off course without even realizing it, all because I did’t check in with Him to ask, “Is this the way that you would desire for me to go, Lord?” It’s a busy life we all live, and we need to strive to keep our sensors open to hear God’s voice guiding our hearts towards the way He wishes for us to go.

My good ways don’t always line up with His way, and the Bible teaches us that our own righteousness is as filthy rags. Our own righteousness will not achieve God’s glory. We cannot set our own course, neatly lay a path the fits our desires and expect God to shine forth through it all. God desires that we seek Him for direction and guidance on how to live and not just “wing it” on our own, guided my our deceitful human heart.

Where Is Our Longing?

Earlier in this chapter, David says this:

Where is our longing for God’s way? It’s the only path that will not lead to destruction, for it is designed by an all knowing and flawless God. Only He can direct a good plan free of fleshly trappings, and only He can lead to the ultimate life of fulfillment, walking hand in hand with HIm.

I have to get out of my own way! Order my steps Lord, in the Word! I don’t want iniquity to have dominion over me. Lean in to God and be sensitive to what He is speaking to your heart, for He knows you desire a good way, just make sure, He is behind the good way that you go.
