A thorny heart
Is like the thorny ground,
Though the seed is sown,
No fruit is found.
It has been blocked by every energy,
Put into all else that surrounds,
A heart sold out to the everyday,
To the cares so presently found.
But there is a treasure worthy,
To buy back a stolen heart.
It’s a treasure that will cultivate,
And begin a brand new start.
This treasure is the only hope,
To soften a hardened heart’s ground.
It’s the Word of God and It’s wisdom speaks,
To the ears, a different sound.
The treasure of God’s Word,
Must be hidden in the heart.
It’s value’s found in daily time,
Devoted to it’s part
Surrendering all of the things,
That took our treasure’s place.
We find a peace in knowing,
This treasure of such grace.
It opens up the thorny heart,
To receive the seed that’s sown,
The fruits that come show the riches of,
This treasure’s power found.

~Author’s Look
This was written from notes taken on the back of a church bulletin 20 years ago. On November 29, 2000, Rev. Ron Becton preached to us a sermon on the subject of a thorny heart and what was missing in our lives to create that.
20 years have passed, and the problem he was preaching to us about has only increased . . .distractions.
There is SO MUCH vying for our time and attention, and our fear of missing out on something keeps us continuously delving into so many other things besides God’s Word.
Lack of His word, brings lack of understanding and a heart that is thorny and hard. When the seeds are sown, there is no place open in our heart to receive it, because it is covered up in everything else that we are devoted to.
iPhones and social media . . . were not even a dominating presence on that day that Rev. Becton brought forth these words to consider. Still even then, there was plenty for our humanity to get more interested in and devoted to, than God’s Word.
We have to wake up and see . . .if we want the wisdom of God’s Word to fall upon our hearts and to grow in the knowledge of Him, then we have to change what we are giving our focus to.
Consecration brings about revelation.
It’s WORTH it’s wealth!!
I loved this! I want there to be fruit in my life, it is so easy to get caught up in things through the day and you look back at the end of the day and think how much of my time did I give to God today! It is worth its wealth!!
Yes Donna- so easy to do- very unintentionally. We have to decide to be – intentional about God’s place in our day.
Yes we do!
